도깨비 이야기: Dokebi Story

In this story, there are many dokebis. Most of them live in a tree. There are red dokebis and blue dokebis.

One day, they decide to play and they disappear into a large rock. Once they are in the ground, the see a young man bringing a cow back from the market. They play a trick on the man and take hold of the cow's feet. No matter how hard the man hits the cow, the cow cannot move. Eventually, the man begs the dokebis for his cow and they let the cow go.

The next day is a red day. Dokebis are afraid of red days so they hide out all day. The young man comes back to where he met the dokebis with a lot of other people ready to cut down the tree that the dokebis hide in. Once they have cut down the tree, a toad appears. This odd toad keeps becoming larger and larger and everyone except for the young man runs away.

The young man watches the toad with interest and the toad begins to throw up gold pieces. He's overjoyed and the towns people begin to wander back. Many of them wish that they had not run away and many others claim that they had not run away in fear, but had been dragged away by other people. These events become the talk of the town.

Later, there is another tree that a dokebi is hiding in. It is a large tree with a large hole in it. The towns people use the hole to grind sesame seeds for oil. There are rumors that a dokebi is living there, but they are just rumors. However, one day, the dokebi is aggravated and comes out of the tree. This dokebi keeps growing larger and larger until he is more than ten times larger than the tree! All the people are scared, but the dokebi simply hops away.
